Every year we celebrate Defence Day to pay homage to our valiant Armed Forces. The 1965 war, besides reminding us of the exemplary bravery and courage of our Armed Forces, also stand as an icon of; our national unity and solidarity, when the whole nation stood up to the challenge and vowed to uphold not just our territorial integrity but our most treasured values, ideals and ethos of nationhood.
Today, forty six years down the line, we need to rekindle the same spirit of 65 war as our motherland faces multitude of issues both on domestic and foreign fronts. Our values and beliefs are threatened by a hideous enemy which attempts to foist its own ideology onto our society. We thus need to forge that same unbreakable bondage of 65 war to reject and defeat it.
Officers and men of Pakistan Navy on their part renew their pledge to play their rightful role in ensuring that our motherland is protected from all dimensions of threat. We also fondly reminisce today, the gallantry of our officers and men who taught a chastening lesson to the adversary and shattered its dream of developing into regional hegemon. Every passing year only adds to our resolve and reaffirms our commitment that spirit of this day will never be allowed to subside and sacrifices of our veterans will belong remembered.
