President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday directed the Ethics Committee of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to prepare a dossier on party members and submit it to the leadership at the time of taking important decisions like award of tickets and allocation of party offices.
Members of the PPP's Ethics Committee called on, President Asif Ali Zardari, who is also PPP Co-Chairman, in the presidency to discuss issues relating to the tasks assigned to the committee. The committee members, who called on the President, included Farhatullah Babar, convenor, members of National Assembly Nafisa Shah and Mehreen Anwar Raja, and Senator Sardar Ali Khan. The Ethics Committee comprises seven members.
The other members include Muhammad Sadiq Umrani, Provincial Minister Balochistan, Pervaiz Ashraf Chaudhry, Chief Organiser PPP AJK and Rana Aftab Ahmed from PPP Punjab. The committee briefed the Co-Chairman on investigations it had carried out in cases of indiscipline and unbecoming behaviour that had been referred to it for this purpose.
The President asked the committee to bring to attention of the party leadership cases that needed to be investigated and reported upon. The Ethics Committee has been tasked to look into public complaints of unethical behaviour against the party MPs, intra-party complaints and to carry out investigations and submit recommendations to the party leadership. It has also been tasked to recommend measures to the party leadership for improving transparency and accountability.
