Altaf clarifies statement

Published Updated

In his video message from London on Thursday, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain said that his telephonic address of August 3, 2011 had created some misunderstanding amongst the Sindhi intellectuals and nationalists. According to him, what he had actually said was only directed towards those elements who had "nakedly" mocked and degraded the
sacrifices of Urdu- and Punjabi-speaking immigrant that they had rendered for the creation of Pakistan. However, he further illustrated that he may not have clearly explained but insisted that he considered himself as son of the soil and regretted if anyone's feelings were hurt by his statement. He further emphasised that his life and death were connected to the land of Sindh, the soil of Sindh is his mother, Pakistan is his motherland; he's a follower of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai and was prepared to sacrifice his life for peace and stability in the province.
Altaf Hussain has appealed to the people of Karachi to help maintain peace at every cost. He asked MQM workers and citizens of Karachi to talk to every religious and political party as part of their efforts towards durable peace in Karachi.
Explaining the reason behind his call to people to hoard ration for at least one month, he said when terrorists were mounting attacks from the Kati Pahari food and other necessary things had become scarce. Even small children had to go without milk in a number of houses. When the houses and shops were being attacked in Surjani Town and when over 150 motor cycles were torched outside a factory in Gulshan-e-Maymar, there was no one to protect the helpless people, according to him.
It was because these tragic incident that he appealed to people to store rations and other necessary things in view of any possible further deteriorating situation similar to an ugly situation a few weeks ago. He appealed to all the religious and political parties to get united for bringing peace in Karachi. Hussain hoped that the Rangers would reach all the affected areas in time and taken action to protect the life and property of people for bringing a permanent peace in Karachi.
