National Assembly prorogued sine die

Although the opposition had requisitioned the 32nd session of the National Assembly but its leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan failed to turn up for which the Deputy Speaker prorogued the House sine die.
During Friday's sitting, the government presented the accounts of the federation for the financial year, 2009-10 and the reports of the Auditor General of Pakistan for the audit year 2010-11, under Article 171 of the Constitution.
The members of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) discussed the recent violent Karachi carnage and criticised the government for failure to implement the Supreme Court orders. They alleged rigging in recent elections held for Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
Although the Opposition parties requisitioned the session, but could not ensure maximum attendance of their members. The participation of treasury members also remained low. On average only 73 members were present at the beginning of each of the two sittings, and 80 at the adjournment of each sitting. Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza did not attend the session. The Deputy Speaker presided over.
Members of MQM and PML-N spoke mainly on the deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi and the government performance to control it. The legislators also discussed the alleged corruption case against a Punjab MPA Moonis Elahi, loadshedding, rising poverty and energy crisis in the country.
The regular government agenda was suspended during the first sitting to debate the three-point opposition agenda. The House witnessed two walkouts by the opposition benches during the session. In first instance, the parliamentary parties of PML-N and MQM walked out of the House during the first sitting on the issue of government agenda being itemized on the Orders of the Day, although the session was requisitioned by the Opposition. During the second sitting, MQM members staged another walkout, which was joined by PML-N over the law and order situation in Karachi.
