Action is being taken against gangsters and police has carried out operation in Godhra Colony recently, said Inspector General Police, Sindh, Wajid Ali Durrani. Addressing a luncheon meeting at Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), the IGP Sindh said that police was taking action not only against gang war criminals but also carrying out operation against illegal weapons and as many as 55 people have been arrested for carrying weapons.
He said that planning was being made to maintain law and order and operation against criminals would be sped up. He announced to set up Community Police Centres (CPC) in Sindh particularly in Karachi as community policing was need of the hour to handle petty issues and leave the major issues and big offences for the police.
He informed that overwhelming response was received when the CPC was introduced in Islamabad recently. He said that in order to curb street crimes, additional police force was being posted at various points with the assistance of CPLC. He said that ongoing conflict between KESC has also created problems for the police. The patron in-chief of KATI, S M Muneer expressed concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi and demanded of the government to call army to stop gang war in some parts of the city. He said that even police cannot enter in some areas due to this situation. He said that this situation was tarnishing the image of Pakistan abroad.
He suggested to nominate 60 per cent members in the board of directors of Police Fund. He said that businessmen would contribute in this fund to help the families of deceased policemen. He urged the ministers and advisors to avail services of private guards instead of engaging police force for their own protection.
Chairman Kati Syed Johar Ali Qandhari in his welcome address said that power and gas crises were causing immense problems for the industry and if the situation was not taken seriously, they country's economy may collapse as a result of closure of many industries. CCPO Saud Mirza, Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan and Chairman, Kati's Law and Order Committee, Nadeem Khan also spoke on the occasion.-PR
