Secretary Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources Muhammad Ejaz Chaudhry said on Friday that 750 mm cubic feet gas supply daily from Iran under Iran-Pak Pipeline project would start from December 2014.
In a briefing to Senate Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Resources that met here at SNGPL head office, with Senator Sabir Ali Baloch in the chair, the secretary said domestic consumers would not be able to afford Pak-Iran project's gas as its cost around Rs 8.50 per unit which could be used for power generations, Industries and fertilisers.
About the LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) project the secretary said progress was being made and 17 international bidders had shown Expression of Interest in supply of energy and gas to Pakistan. The committee was informed that presently the country was facing gas shortfall of above two billion cubic feet against demand of 6.9 billion cubic feet.
The secretary informed that 95 percent gas development programmes were being completed under the Prime Minister schemes. The committee also showed concern over constant increase in prices of petroleum products. The meeting was attended by member of the committee including senators Jahangir Badar, Dr Safdar Ali Abbasi, Shahid Hassan Bugti, Nawabzada Mir Haji Lashkari Raisani, Dr Muhammad Ismail Buledi, Haroon Akhtar Khan and Pervez Rashid.
