Today, the 'Provincial Autonomy Day' is being celebrated across the country with zeal and zest. It is indeed an historic day, which will be chronicled in the national history in golden words. We are grateful to Allah Almighty for enabling us to resolve issues of national importance that lingered on for many decades.
It is the singular honour of the democratic government that it fulfilled all the requisites of the constitution and restored its original character. Pakistan People's Party, from day one, has been aware of the significance and importance of provincial autonomy. The leadership of this party always strived to provide the provinces their constitutional and legal rights so that improvement could be brought about in the life of the common man, national politics as well as economy.
If the provinces enjoy their due rights, only then can they contribute towards national development. This is the way to remove the grievances of the people belonging to smaller provinces and also help them play beneficial role in national matters. Since assuming power to serve the masses, the government gave priority to the matter of devolution of power to provinces. Through reconciliation and consultation, we got the 18th amendment approved which paved the way towards provincial autonomy.
Pursuing the same policy of reconciliation, our government, by the Grace of Allah, has undertaken satisfactory measures such as the 7th National Finance Commission Award, Aagaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan initiative and the issue of water distribution amongst the provinces.
I am confident that by these decisions, democracy would be further strengthened in the country, the problems of the masses would be resolved, and the green crescent flag would fly higher in the comity of nations. On this occasion, I would like to pay tribute to all the personalities, political parties and institutions that burnt their proverbial mid-night oil and worked with untiring effort, through consultation and understanding. In view of the present situation, I would like to draw attention of all political parties and leaders to this fact that we need to demonstrate unity, confidence and tolerance for the sake of national sovereignty and security. I pray to Almighty Allah that He may guide us and give us strength to serve the nation (Amen).
