Three convicted Pakistanis in Saudi jail: Senate body asks Foreign Ministry to provide details

The sub-committee of Senate Standing Committee on Interior directed Ministry of Foreign Affairs to provide complete details about the three Pakistanis, who were given death sentence in Saudi Arabia despite the payment of blood money. The committee met here at Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Senator Talha Mehmood in the chair and discussed the matter pertaining to death sentence to three Pakistanis detained in a Saudi prison.
The officials of Foreign Ministry informed the Committee that the Consulate in Saudi Arabia was working to resolve the issue. They informed the committee that the Vice Counsellor in Saudi Arabia was in contact with the Pakistani prisoners and Saudi Government had sought attested documents of 'Diyat' (blood money) paid for the release of three Pakistanis. The committee expressed concern on the delay demonstrated by the Foreign Ministry in the case, saying that the case should have been handled with great responsibility for early release of the detainees.
Senator Talha Mehmood informed the media that at present over 7,000 Pakistanis are languishing in different jails across the globe and a separate cell was set up in Foreign Office to strive for immediate release of the detained Pakistanis.
He said that the committee raised the issue with high ups of the foreign Office and directed them to use diplomatic channels as well as adopt legal approach for early release of three Pakistanis, who were given death sentence on March 29 by the Saudi government despite paying of 'Diyat'. Foreign Office must get an assurance from the Saudi Ambassador that the convicted Pakistanis would not be given death sentence.
