Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) has seized three more containers of wet blue hides valued Rs 13 millions, which were being exported to Taiwan. According to sources, the accused exporter had misdeclared the description and PCT Code of the consignment to evade regulatory duty at the rate of 20 per cent in accordance with SRO 1011(I)/2005 dated September 27, 2005.
The action was taken on the tip-off, which revealed that some unscrupulous importers were regularly evading regulatory duty through automated web based clearance system of PaCCS. They said the investigation was initiated by the Research & Development Section of the collectorate, which identified the involvement of five exporters in this Rs 54 million tax scam during past 5 years. They further said all these exporters were issued notices. The goods of the containers, which were detained for examination at the port, were found to be wet blue leather during physical examination. Further legal proceedings are being carried out under the provisions of law.
