Punjab Education Minister Mian Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has said that Punjab government has allocated Rs 4 billion in the last budget for the provision of missing facilities in the schools of the province. He was addressing the launching ceremony of book titled "Education in Pakistan: Developmental Milestones" by Dean of Education Professor Dr Hafiz Muhammad Iqbal at Institute of Education & Research (IER) Punjab University.
Minister said that Punjab government had played a positive role in the solution of Higher Education Commission (HEC) adding the HEC now will be run by federal government till next National Finance Commission Award. Mujtaba said that book reveals the ups and downs in education sector of Pakistan since its independence.
He said that Dr Iqbal had covered all areas of education including curriculum, primary and higher education in his book. He also said that private schools adopted the syllabus of Punjab Textbook Board and public-private partnership was promoted through Punjab Education Foundation. Daanish School is a state-of-the-art school and Punjab government proved that public sector schools can also provide education of Aitcheson level to poor students.
VC PU Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran has stated that education is the only way of respectable survival and for being educated, strong moral characteristics are required. He said that our leadership will have to realise the importance of education for resolving all issues.
Chairman Punjab Education Foundation Raja Anwar, Senior journalist Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami, former VC University of Education Dr Ghulam Mustafa Habibullah, Secretary literacy Dr Allah Bakhsh Malik, former PU VC Professor Dr Khalid Hameed Sheikh, renowned educationist Dr Shahid Siddiqui, founder Akhuwat Foundation Dr Muhammad Amjad Saqib and others also addressed on the occasion.
