Foreign Office on Thursday condemned the brutal murder of renowned journalist, Syed Saleem Shahzad Bureau Chief of Asia Times Online Magazine on May 31 and demanded that the preparatory who committed the crime must be brought to justice. The journalists who attended the weekly briefing of foreign office also staged a token walkout to condemn the killing of Saleem Shahzad.
Not only foreign office but Australian High Commission also condemned the attack. In a statement, Australia's High Commissioner to Pakistan, Tim George acknowledged Shahzad as a distinguished and courageous journalist, whose work covered many of the serious challenges being faced by Pakistani society, including terrorism.
"I note, and welcome, that Pakistan's Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has ordered an inquiry into Shahzad's murder. I urge the government of Pakistan to leave no stone unturned in finding, arresting and bringing to justice his murderers", he said.
It also said in the statement that Pakistan has become one of the most dangerous places in the world for journalists. It is vital for the development and continuance of Pakistani democracy that it protects and develops its media, and value the contribution of journalists such as Syed Saleem Shahzad. His death is a serious loss to Pakistan.
