UVAS organises book fair

The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) organised its first annual Book Fair-2011 at its conference hall on Wednesday. Various booksellers displayed books on variety of subjects including human, livestock, literature, science, IT and social science. Research scholars, faculty members and a large number of students from various departments and people from all walks of life visited the book fair and purchased books of their interest.
UVAS Vice Chancellor Professor Drite. Muhammad Nawaz accompanied by dean faculty of veterinary and animal sciences Professor Dr Nasim Ahmad, dean faculty of bio-science Professor Dr Ijaz Ahmad, and registrar Professor Dr Kamran Asharaf, Professor Dr Muhammad Sarwar, Professor Dr Muhammad Ashraf inaugurated the book fair 2011.
UVAS Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Nawaz appreciated the efforts of administrative officials, faculty members and students to make the book fair a success.
He said the purpose of organising book fair was to promote habit of book reading in the society and ensure provision of books on discounted rates to book-lovers at one place.
He said knowledge was the real source of power and educated nations are enjoying power and respect among the comity of nations while backwardness was the destiny of illiterate nations.
He stressed the need to allocate at least 4 percent of our GDP for education.
Muhammad Aslam, a student said that the habit of book reading is very important not only for education and research but to build the character and personality.
Amna Afzala another student said that book fair is an opportunity for the students to see books on varied subjects. She said that such activities should be part and parcel of any institution.
