A small industrial estate will be established over 50 acres of land in the outskirts of Mithi city of Tharparkar. Talking to newsmen after inauguration of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai Colony, Sindh Minister for Commerce and Industries, Rauf Siddiqui said that the mini-zone will be set up at a cost of Rs 38.471 million and will comprise 72 small industries.
He said the project was expected to be completed by 2013 and so far the Sindh government has released Rs 2.170 million for it. The Sindh Small Industries Corporation (SSIC) is making efforts to establish a network of units across the province to p omote local traditional crafts for the well being of the artisans and craftsmen. Besides, he said other projects include 100 residential quarters, 100 workshops, 25 shops, a display centre, a dispensary, a primary school and parks for the craftsmen of Thar.
All the facilities were being provided free of cost through a draw in transparent manner to help end joblessness among the youth, he maintained.
The Minister said that establishment of the display centre for handicrafts and other items at the artisans' colony at Mithi would provide a one-window facility to exporters and people visiting Thar to directly interact with the craftsmen. This facility would end the role of middlemen who had been exploiting these poor people.
