Rising-load shedding amid unbearable mercury level is proving awful for the power consumers, as it has put them into a terrible situation with power outages duration escalating to eight to 10 hours in urban and rural areas. Especially, thunderstorms in Sothern Punjab have made the life of commoners miserable and an upsurge in load-shedding duration has added fuel to the fire. The mercury level has reached 44 C across Punjab province.
Meanwhile, power generation stood at 14,478MW against the demand of 16,333MW, bringing the shortfall to 1,855MW. Power sector experts fear further rise in load-shedding ahead. Power generation through hydel, thermal, IPPs and RPPs remained 5,494MW, 1,767MW, 7,038MW and 170MW respectively. Power supply to KESC remained 620MW.
