A high level delegation of Pakistani businessmen will visit Tajikistan from May 30 to June 3, 2011. The visit is aimed at promoting trade ties between the two countries and exploring new avenues of mutual co-operation.
This was announced by president Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Senator Haji Ghulam Ali, while addressing a news conference along with chief executive Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) Tariq Iqbal Puri, chairman Baig Group, Dr Mirza Ikhtiar Baig and Ambassador of Tajikistan Zubaydullo Zubaydov here on Sunday. The delegation, which comprises representatives of all relevant trade and industrial sectors from across the country, is visiting Tajikistan on the invitation of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon. Elaborating the objectives of the visit, Ghulam Ali said that the visit was aimed at interacting with the counterparts in Tajikistan, adding that such high level contacts would be productive in stimulating new areas of business collaboration between the two brotherly countries.
He underscored the critical role of the FPCCI in forging business-to-business contacts with a view to support the overall government objective of enhancing trade and investment through such interaction. He further said that a similar 110-member delegation would also visit Iran after the conclusion of Tajikistan visit.
Tariq Puri said that TDAP and FPCCI had jointly undertaken the important businessmen delegation, which represents the cross section of Pakistan's trade, industry and business leaders from across the country.
He informed that the industrial and services sectors represented in the delegation include, textiles, rice, pharmaceuticals, engineering, financial sector, food and agriculture, information technology, minerals, construction, travel and tourism, leather, arms and ammunition, auto parts, cutlery and other general products.
Puri further said that the areas of interests in Tajik economy for Pakistani investors include cotton, aluminium and hydel power sectors wherein joint-venture opportunities will be explored. Speaking on the occasion, Tajik ambassador highlighted the efforts to make the visit productive and result-oriented. He said Tajikistan-Pakistan Business Forum is scheduled during the visit, which will be chaired by Tajik Prime Minister Akil Akilov, besides a number of other activities.
