Chancellor Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET), Z A Nizami, has said that it is vitally important for employees' prosperous future to improve communication skills and be able to transmit their thoughts and ideas effectively and clearly to others using a variety of tools and medium.
Lengthy dissertations and circuitous explanations create confusion to the listener and thus the message loses its concreteness, relevance, and impact. Choose your words with the intent of making your message as clear as possible, avoiding jargon and unnecessary, tangential information.
Nizami was speaking at the certificate distribution ceremony of 3-day workshop on Communication and Presentation Skills, organised by the Quality Enhancement Cell in collaboration with Management Consultancy and Training Services at the Campus. The main objective of the workshop was to train the university's staff and keep them abreast with the latest trends and applications of presentation and communication skills in corporate sector. It was attended by around 54 participants among which 26 were from faculty and 28 belonged to the non-teaching staff.
Appreciating the efforts of QEC and MCTS for holding such thought-provoking workshop for university employees to boost their skills of communication and presentation, he said that the aggressive, critical or accusatory words tend to create a resistant and defensive mindset that is not conducive to productive problem solving. So always choose words that reduce resentment.-PR
