The Punjab Chief Secretary is instructed to get official residences vacated from retired government officials and recover rent with fines for overstaying in these residences. According to sources here on Wednesday, the Punjab Chief Secretariat has issued a letter to Chief Secretary Nasir Mahmood Khosa, in which he has been instructed to take action against the illegal occupants and charge rent (with fine) from these retired bureaucrats.
Among the retired senior bureaucrats include former IGPs Ahmed Nasim and Rana Maqbool Ahmed, former federal secretaries Ziaur Rehman, G M Sikandar, Ismail Qureshi and Tariq Mahmood, former Danish school system MD Yousaf Kamal, former ACE DG Kazim Malik, former P&D Chairman Salman Ghani, Shahzad Hassan Pervaiz and former DCO Lahore Khalid Sultan.
According to government rules, an officer could retain an official residence for two months after the date of his/her retirement from service. The authorities upon request could grant an extension of only six months. However, sources said, the retired officials were living in GOR-I houses without any legal permission.
