Airbase attack: police refuse to change FIR

There is some confusion about the actual number of attackers who had besieged the navy's airbase in Karachi and the Navy officials have approached the police department to change the FIR. But, according to sources, the Police department have declined the request of Navy officials to modify the FIR by reducing the numbers of suspects nominated in the FIR.
They said the department had recorded statements of all nine injured while the ethnicity of the terrorists would be confirmed after DNA report. They said the finger prints of the terrorists have not matched with the database of Nadra while the police are examining all other aspects to identify the terrorists.
They said the police were still not provided CCTV footages of the place from where the terrorists were believed to have entered in the base by cutting barbed wires. They said the police have also started interrogating residents of Al Falah and Sharea Faisal to identify/locate the place where this attack was planned.
When contacted DIG investigation Iftikhar Tarrar confirmed that the department had refused to reduce the number of terrorists nominated in the FIR because of legal limitations. He said the Navy officials had requested to do so but the department made it clear that the FIR could not be amended as it had now become a legal document.
He confirmed that the Russian made weapons were used in this attack but the ethnicity of the terrorists could only be confirmed after the DNA report and added that the statements of all nine had been recorded. Meanwhile, an inquiry committee has also been constituted for detailed investigation into the attack on Mehran base. The committee is headed by Rear-Admiral Tahseenullah while other committee members are from naval, air force officers FIA and police.
