KESC workers accused of stealing copper wire

The copper wire owned by Karachi Electric Supply Company is being stolen by its workers on daily basis inflicting a loss of millions of rupees to the company, Business Recorder learnt on Tuesday. Sources said that the workers outsourced by KESC were found involved in stealing the expensive copper wires from KESC offices.
The damages are ultimately to be borne by the consumers, said a citizen who claimed to be an eyewitness of the copper wire theft. Insider in KESC on the condition of anonymity said that KESC has hired some 6000 workers to run their operation after the protest launched by some regular workers against putting 4500 workers in surplus pool. In this regard Spokesmen KESC Amin-u-Rehan when contacted told Business Recorder that protesting employees after hijacking the vehicles of KESC contractual workers committed such misdeeds. He denied that any contract employee is involved in the wire theft. The KESC spokesman urged upon the citizens to immediately contact the KESC administration or lodge complaint on helpline number 118 for reporting wire theft.
