Chechen nationals killed in alleged police encounter at Kharotabad in the vicinity of Quetta were pilgrims and travelling to visit holy places in Iran. Quoting sources, a private television channel reported that the Chechens were travelling via Afghanistan and Pakistan to visit holy shrines in Iran. They had got visa documents from Iran embassy in Kabul but trapped by human smugglers at Spin Boldak, a town at Pak-Afghan border, which taken them to Quetta via Chaman.
The Chechens were reached Quetta after greasing the palms of security men at checkposts. No arms were found from the slain foreigners. FC personnel opened fire at unarmed Chechens after getting wrong report from police.
