PML-N led Punjab government is implementing a developmental strategy aimed at ensuring inclusive growth, poverty alleviation and employment generation to address economic and social challenges. Senior Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab, Sirdar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa said this while talking to a delegation of Royal College of Defence Studies UK, led by Desmond Vowen which called on him, here Saturday.
The delegation comprised military officers from UK, Brazil, Germany, Norway and Canada. The senior advisor said government is making massive investment in the social sector, ie education and health to realise the demographic dividend (46 percent of the development outlay) infrastructure development; communications and irrigation (40 percent of outlay) and production sectors ie agriculture and livestock (five percent of development outlay).
Some of the pro-poor initiatives undertaken by the government in the field of education, health and social safety net include setting up institutions for providing quality education to the poor with boarding and lodging facilities. He informed that Daanish School System has started work in Chishtian (Bahawalnagar), Hasilpur (Bahawalpur), Chak 82-P (Rahim Yar Khan) whereas next focus is on Rajanpur, DG Khan, Attock and Mianwali.
For the establishment of the schools, lands surrendered by big land owners will be given over to these schools as endowment to ensure their smooth functioning, no matter which party/parties with the government, he added. Highlighting other steps in the education sector, he said computer labs have been set up in 4,500 schools while recruitment of 44,000 teachers and appointment of vice chancellors of the varsities has been made on merit.
