Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has constituted two benches of the Supreme Court (SC) for the next week to start hearing plethora of cases from May 23 (Monday).
The cause list issued by the fixture department of the Supreme Court for next week says that the bench number one comprises Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Muahammad Sair Ali and Justice Ghulam Rabbani whereas the bench number two comprises Justice Mian Shakarullah Jan, Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Tariq Pervaiz.
The CJP has directed the fixture department that no application be placed before the court for adjournment through fax adding that if the counsel is unable to appear the Advocate-on-Record (AOR) will be required to argue the case. "No Adjournment on any ground will be granted." The CJP declared categorically.
Major cases, which are scheduled to be heard during next week include: procurement loss of billions of rupees of exchequer caused by National Insurance Company Limited (NICL), 10 civil appeals in educational institutions cases, suo moto case of deadbeats got loans of Rs 54 billion written off from financial institution of the country, petition of agro farms in Islamabad, writ petition on determination of well head price filed by Dewan Petroleum and others. The benches will also hear cases including tax, service and bail matters.
