Export inquiries pushed up the prices of Guwar on the wholesale grain market on Saturday, dealers said. As a whole, general trend in the market was up as grams prices also went higher ahead of 2011-12 budget announcement and Ramazan, commodity experts said.
They said that both buyers and consumers were active in covering the short position, so it can be expected that the rates may go further higher due to strong demand. On the cereal side, guwar Sindh gained Rs 400 to Rs 5200-5300, guwar Punjab in sympathy, followed same print, rising same amount to Rs 5100-5200, wheat old bardan and new picked up Rs 5 to Rs 2425-2440, they said.
On the grams side yellow peas Canada low type gained Rs 75 to Rs 3650, the best type, however, shed Rs 25 to Rs 3750, yellow peas dal Canada rose by Rs 125 to Rs 4050 and low type was up by Rs 25 to Rs 3750, yellow peas Ukraine was higher by Rs 50 to Rs 3550-3750, yellow peas dal Ukraine low type rose by Rs 125 to Rs 4000 while the superior quality was unchanged at Rs 4125 and bajra low type picked up Rs 50 to Rs 2700 while the good type was inert at Rs 3000, they said.
Only one change was witnessed on the rice sector, where Irri-6 Sindh low type inched up after gaining Rs 5 to Rs 3530 while the best quality stayed put at the overnight level in process of trading, they said. On the seed side cottonseeds oilcake with bag Sindh low type lost Rs 70 to Rs 1200 and best type appreciated by Rs 30 to Rs 1360, til low type gained Rs 100 to Rs 3400 and best type did not show any change at Rs 3700, they said.
