Argentina's 2010/11 soya harvest is expected to come in at 50.4 million tonnes, the government said on Thursday, holding its previous estimate as harvesting nears its end. Argentina, the world's No 3 soyabean supplier and the leading exporter of soyaoil and soyameal, produced a record 52.7 million tonnes in the previous campaign. Dry weather this season trimmed initial expectations for another record harvest.
The Agriculture Ministry, in its monthly crop report, said farmers had gathered 82 percent of the soya crop, 3 points behind last season's gathering pace. "Harvesting of early planted crops is about to finish, with gathering of late-planted beans progressing at a good rate," the report said. The government also maintained its monthly estimate for the 2010/11 corn crop at 20.9 million tonnes, down 8 percent from the previous season. Argentina is the world's No 2 corn supplier after the United States.
