Conducting blasphemy contest: LHC moved for permanent ban on Facebook

Lahore High Court here Thursday summoned representative of Ministry of Information Technology for May 24 in a petition seeking permanent ban on access to Facebook. The court also handed over a copy of the petition to Deputy Attorney, General Zia-ul-Qamar Bhatti directing him to obtain instructions from the federal government and ministry of foreign affairs on the matter.
The petition was filed by Mohammad & Ahmad, a public interest litigation firm, through its chairman Mohammad Azhar Siddique advocate praying for permanent ban on access to Facebook. He requested that Facebook and all similar web-sites be permanently blocked or banned in Pakistan for airing, placing, visualising caricatures of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). The petition aims at stopping the unholy drawing contest as well as blocking access to Facebook site in order to save the feelings of millions of Muslims by the objectionable caricatures which the masters minds of "Second Annual Draw Muhammad Day - May 20 2011" are planning through the dirty contest.
