Former MNA and JI Ameer from Bajaur Agency, Sahibzada Haroon Rasheed on Tuesday called for extension of the inquiry by recently formed independent commission, to Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata). Speaking at a news conference here at Peshawar Press Club (PPC), Rasheed welcomed the formation of an independent inquiry commission to probe the Abbottabad operation that led to the killing of Osama bin Laden by US special forces.
Terming Fata as an organ of the state, he urged upon the commission to investigate into the unlawful and unconstitutional drone attacks being carried out by US and also the security forces operations in the area. Flanked by Dr Munsaf, JI General Secretary, Fata and JI Ameer Khyber Agency, Shah Faisal Afridi, he said that a large number of people, including women and Children had been killed in the drone strikes. He claimed that about 99 percent of those killed were innocent.
Rasheed accused the government of following the policies of former dictator Pervaiz Musharraf to appease their western allies and mint money. He condemned the Abbottabad operation and termed it an attack on the sovereignty and integrity of the country. Rasheed accused that operation in the tribal areas had been launched at the behest of the United States. He demanded of the government to extend inquiry to Fata to probe the killings of innocent tribal people.
