STEVTA to train 3,000 eunuchs in various trade

Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA) to train more than 3,000 government-registered she-males in various trades, which will help them earn a decent living, well-placed sources told Business Recorder here on Tuesday.
Following the verdict of Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding the provision of equal rights to the she-males of the country, the Social Welfare Department of Sindh government has made very serious efforts in this regard. Sources told that the Social Welfare Department had started registration of she-males in the province about two months ago, which has now completed. According to official figures more than 3,000 she-males were living in the various districts of province, have now been registered.
The department has approached the authorities of STEVTA for provision of training to all she-males in different trades as they could learn skills to earn bread and butter for themselves. The authorities of STEVTA have assured the officials of Social Welfare Department that they would provide training to all she-males in different phases, sources said.
The department has also written a letter to the secretary education for giving admissions to she-males in all public educational institutes while they have written a letter to the secretary health too for provision of all health facilities to she-male community on priority basis. Similarly, the department wrote a letter to Secretary Home and IG Sindh police for taking special measures for the security and safety of she-male community living in the every nook and corner of the province, sources added. The focal person and Additional Secretary Social Welfare, Dr Iqbal Saeed has confirmed this while talking to Business Recorder at his office.
He said that soon after the verdict of Supreme Court of Pakistan, they had geared-up the social work regarding she-males in the province. He said that they had appointed three people from the community of she-males as focal persons each in Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur, they were in touch with him over every issue of social welfare of she-males.
He said that they had registered two NGOs namely Jiya Welfare Organisation and Gender Interactive Alliance and they were working for the welfare of she-males. He said that they had approached Election Commission of Pakistan for registration of votes of she-males but they replied that first of all they should make CNICs of she-males from NADRA than ECP would add their names in voter lists.
Dr Saeed said hearing of Supreme Court to be held on Wednesday (Today) in Islamabad, where he would submit the report of Sindh Social Welfare Department regarding the welfare of she-males. After the hearing, they would speed up their work for social and financial wellbeing of she-male community.
