The Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KSEW) Monday handed over two small tankers-cum-utility ships to Pakistan Navy. The ships, built at the KSEW, are 47-m long with 1600 tons displacement. Vice Admiral Abbas Raza Hl (M), Commander Pakistan Fleet, was the chief guest on the occasion. The ceremony was attended by high ranking officials from PN and KSEW.
The ships are equipped with steerable rudder propellers along with bow thrusters for controlled positioning, modern navigation and communication. These vessels are constructed to fulfil many functions like replenishment of ships in harbour, logistic support to coastal stations, assistance of PN fleet for marine operations at sea, such as Torpedo recovery, mine laying, search and rescue activities etc.
MD KSEW, Cdre Nasir Iqbal Akbar TI (M) welcomed the chief guest. He said that Karachi Shipyard has proudly served Pakistan Navy, its most valuable client whose product demands sophistication, high expertise and quality workmanship. Among its accomplishment are construction of missile craft, tugs, coastal tanker and fabrication of pressure hull for Agosta 90B's submarine Project. These achievements helped to win Pakistan Navy confidence to undertake mega projects of F-22P frigate and Fast Attach Missile Craft construction at Karachi Shipyard. Construction of frigate is progressing as per schedule and we are all set to launch the frigate by next month.-PR
