Supreme Court was told on Monday that a total of 260 people were killed whereas 512 injured in different incidents in the Balochistan since 2008. A two-member bench headed by the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing a petition regarding the targeted killings and law and order situation in Balochistan.
During the course of hearing, the chief justice observed the province was going through worst time. He said, "We must assess the situation and work for improvement before it is too late." Chief Secretary Balochistan Ahmed Bux told the court that legal heirs of those perished in target killing were released an amount of Rs 130 million as compensation during last three years, whereas strict measure were being taken to improve law and order situation in the province. The chief justice observed that law and order in the province was deteriorating with each passing day following the killing of Nawab Akbar Bugatti and others. Further hearing was adjourned till May 23.
