Power shortfall likely to occur again

Power shortfall is likely to be triggered again with short supply of fuel to thermal power generation, sources said. According to the reliable sources, oil supply to thermal generation halted again on Monday, pushing the shortfall again to 5,000MW ahead.
It may be noted that Managing Director Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco), Rasul Khan Mehsud had told media in a briefing that power shortfall would reduce substantially with improved oil supply to the thermal units. However, the claim short-lived, as the shortfall kept on lurking to 2,500MW for a while and finally hit through the roof. Pepco daily brief has suggested that the power shortfall already crossed 3,000MW during last 24 hours.
According to the brief, power generation during last 24 hours stood at 13,460MW against a demand of 16,790MW, accumulating the shortfall to 3,330MW. Power generation through hydel, thermal, IPPs and RPPs remained 5,086MW, 1,549MW, 6,763MW and 62MW respectively. Power supply to KESC was recorded at 710MW during the last 24 hours.
