Complete shutdown observed in Indian occupied Kashmir on Saturday against the continued illegal detention of innocent Kashmiris including Hurriyet leaders and activists. Call for the shutdown has been given by veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, to press the demand for release of the detainees.
All shops, business establishments, educational institutions, banks and courts are closed while traffic is off the road, Kashmir Media Service reported. Syed Ali Gilani, in a media interview in Srinagar said, Kashmir is not a part of India and the Jammu and Kashmir has virtually been turned into a police state. He said that India had no legal or moral right to continue its illegal occupation of Kashmir.
The veteran leader while referring to his house arrest and curfew like situation in Shopian, where he was scheduled to address a rally on Friday said, "Government of India and its regime here have accepted defeat. New Delhi has always failed to suppress our spirit and it will never succeed to weaken our resolve." Syed Ali Gilani maintained that Jammu and Kashmir was an internationally recognised disputed territory and the Kashmiris had not reconciled to India's military occupation.
