At least three unidentified armed robbers looted Rs 3.7 million from a bank in broad daylight on Wednesday. According to details, at 01:04 pm, three armed robbers entered a bank situated at Chamra Chowrangi, Korangi within the limits of Korangi Industrial Area police station, and held the employees hostages. Police said the armed robbers completed their operation within just 55 seconds and later escaped from the scene.
They further said the robbers looted Rs 3.7 millions from cash counter and other valuables from the staff. They said the security camera systems were working properly and the investigation team collected the CCTV footages to nab the robbers. Meanwhile a case was registered on the complaint of bank manager Shakeel and further investigation is underway. In another incident, police had foiled a bank robbery bid at II Chundrigar Road after a brief encounter, which left two persons, including a police constable Zubair and an alleged bank robber Rahim injured.
On being informed, Mithadar police and Special Investigation Unit (SIU) rushed to the spot. When the bandits saw the police, they opened fire, which left a police constable Zubair injured. Police retaliated and arrested an alleged bandit Rahim, who got bullet wounds during encounter, while his two other accomplices managed to flee from the scene. Police also claimed to have recovered a TT pistol from his possession. Later the injured were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) in critical condition.
