Power shortfall stood around 3,000MW despite constant improvement on the power generation front, showing rising demand with substantial rise in mercury. Power generation during last 24 hours remained 12,860MW against a demand of 15,750MW, showing a difference of 2,890MW.
It may be noted that fuel supply has improved substantially in the last few days besides fast process of snowmelt at the glaciers. However, there are still heavy lapses in the generation and demand of electricity in the country. Especially the commercial and industrial consumers are facing big trouble out of long hours load shedding, as the textile industry circles are pointing out that as many as 130 spinning units have closed down.
Power generation through hydel, thermal, IPPs and RPPs stood at 4,504MW, 1,665MW, 6,625MW and 66MW respectively. Meanwhile, power supply to the KESC remained 730MW, which is raising many eyebrows in Punjab. But still the MD Pepco is of the view that the domestic consumer in Karachi can not be put into trouble at any cost. However, domestic consumers in Karachi are not happy with the situation and started protesting against the long hours of load-shedding during last 24 hours.
