Group exhibition of selected artwork of 13 Pakistani artists for charity got underway in a colourful manner in Singapore on Tuesday. According to the reports reaching here from Singapore, the exhibition titled "Artistic Fusions From Pakistan" was inaugurated by the Ambassador at Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of National Heritage Board, Tommy Koh at the Art House in Old Parliament Lane, and is scheduled to continue till May 15.
Pakistan High Commissioner in Singapore Mrs Fauzia M. Sana and prominent participating artist Jimmy Engineer, who was there at the special invitation of the organisers, were among the large number of local and Pakistani community members present. As already announced, proceeds from the sale of paintings and calligraphic work on display in the group exhibition are going to be donated for help and rehabilitation of earthquake victims of Japan and flood victims of Pakistan.
Besides prominent Pakistani artist of international fame, Jimmy Engineer, other 12 artists whose selected art work is being displayed in the exhibition are Iqbal Hussain, A.Q. Arif, A.S. Rind Abrar Ahmad, Amjad Butt, Mansur Rahi and his artist wife Hajra Mansur, Maham Gul, Mashkoor Raza, Mussarat Arif, Salman Farooqi and Tariq Javaid who hail from Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi/Islamabad and other parts of the country. On the whole, more than 70 paintings including famous Pakistan Movement series of paintings and recent architectural compositions of Pakistan of Jimmy Engineer are on display in the exhibition.
In addition to the artwork of the 13 Pakistani artists paintings and calligraphic work of four women artists, based in Singapore, also form part of the major group show. They are Ms Salahi Rahni and Ms Shahla Rostami, both hailing from Iran but based in Singapore for varying period and doing calligraphic and paintings as their hobby, and Mrs Lubov Fedotova and MrsClaudia Gonzales. Mrs Lubov Fedotova is the wife of the Ambassador of Ukraine in Singapore and MrsClaudia Gonzales is the wife of the Mexican Ambassador in Singapore.
In her message on the occasion, Pakistani High Commissioner Mrs Fauzia M. Sana said that the art-work of renowned artists from Pakistan reflected the richness of Pakistan's culture and heritage, a maturity of vision through experience, and a mastery over their subject and medium. Welcoming Jimmy Engineer, she said that the presence of the internationally famous artist, Jimmy Engineer, in Singapore for the exhibition has added flame to the fire, as he is not only an acclaimed artist but also a great believer in human rights. So the art lovers visiting the exhibition are viewing and appreciating lot of artwork of as many as 17 artists not only from Pakistan but also those hailing from Iran, Ukraine and Mexico.-PR
