PML-N leaders suggest soft stance towards army

Majority of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz's (PML-N) leaders have reportedly suggested not to criticise the country's intelligence agencies and army for the May 2 Abbottabad incident. In a meeting of the party's Central Organising Committee (COC) and parliamentary party chaired by Nawaz Sharif, here on Tuesday, they, however, were of the view to be more critical on the government for its alleged inability to deal with the problems being faced by the nation, sources in the party told Business Recorder.
The meeting will continue on Wednesday (today) and on the conclusion, the PML-N chief will announce party's future strategy and important decisions, said PML-N's media office. The five-hour-long session mainly sought suggestions from the party's leaders on the country's prevailing political situation in the backdrop of May 2 US raid in Abbottabad, which resulted into killing of Osama bin Laden. The meeting was addressed by 22 members of the party and they stressed the need for fixation of responsibility to stop Abbottabad-like incidents in future.
Besides, discussing the issue of country's sovereignty and integrity, drone attacks, good governance, declining economy and price hike, they also presented various suggestions to fix responsibility on the persons whose incompetence resulted in Abbottabad incident.
In his opening remarks, Nawaz Sharif told the meeting that he was as upset with the current situation as any other countryman. He said that Pakistan was confronted with unprecedented economic challenges due to the ongoing war on terror, while thousands of civilian and military officials have lost their precious lives. Even then we are being confronted with critical questions, he said. He asked the participants of the meeting to find solution for bringing economic prosperity with the view to resolve the issue of unemployment as well as to restore the lost image of Pakistan.
The PML-N's chief said that PML-N agenda was not to grab power, but to continue efforts for the accomplishment of national goals. Nawaz further said that he would inform the people about the important decisions of the meeting on Wednesday. Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Senator Raja Zafarul Haq, Ishaq Dar, Ahsan Iqbal, Khwaja Saad Rafique and other leaders attended the meeting. The meeting will continue today (Wednesday) to discuss the PML-Q's joining of the federal cabinet, reorganisation of party and future strategy of the party on the political and economic situation of the country.
