Two leaders of Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum Karachi, Abdul Ghani and Haji Abu Bakar were killed Thursday night while the third, Aijaz son of Haji Siddique is missing, as the outlaws attacked Kaka Village and kidnapped all the three, PFF spokesman said on Friday.
The news of killing of two PFF leaders spread like jungle fire and hundreds of people gathered at Maurpur, wanting to proceed to Kaka Village but police blocked all roads and stopped them. Similarly, a large number of fishermen, boat men from Karachi Fish Harbour, Khadda, Lyari, Keamari and islands gathered at Mauripur Road near ICI Bridge and blocked the road. PFF Chairperson Mohammed Ali Shah, Saeed Baloch, Majeed Motani, Yousuf Kadani, Kausar Sadiq, Khuda Ganj Shad, Sami Memon, Talib Kachhi, Kamal Shah and a large number of community activists were present on the occasion. The peaceful rally culminated after the bodies were brought to the hospital for post-mortem.
PFF warned that in case of police failure to arrest the criminals they will take out a mass rally towards Chief Minister House. PFF spokesman said Mohammed Ali Shah and Saeed Baloch have lodged FIR against five persons, including Haji Younus and his son Zulfiqar Younus, who, they alleged, are involved in the murder of their leaders. The Forum announced three-day of mourning to condemn the killing of the two leaders and asked the community to stage protest demonstration to press the government to arrest the criminals.
Furthermore, a large number of fishermen and women took out separate rallies in Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sanghar, Qambar, Kashmore and Sukket to protest killing of the their leaders. They were shouting slogans against the brutality in the incident and also condemned the role of Mauripur Police, which, they alleged, provided cover to the criminals and helped them safe escape after committing the horrible crime. Gulab Shah from Thatta, Hussain Jarwar, Jamil Junejo, Younus Marri, Perween Magsi and Jumman Mallah from Hyderabad, while leading separate rallies, condemned the incident and said the rivals selected the day for their killing when they were celebrating the foundation day of PFF in the country.
PFF had launched a campaign against the land mafia to protect mangroves' forests near Kakapir Village in particular and entire coast in general. In this regard, it has already written letters to higher authorities, staged protest rallies, hunger strike and ultimately held a short march from Kakapir Village Keamari to Karachi Press Club on February 8, 2011.
