Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) earned over Rs 48 million for national exchequer by issuing over 185,330 tickets to traffic violators during first quarter of the year 2011.
ITP has succeeded in maintaining an exemplary traffic system in the federal capital, as its personnel fined around 185,330 vehicles for securing the lives of the citizens and making them law abiding citizens, said Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Dr Moeen Masood during the review of overall performance of the ITP.
The data presented in the review meeting revealed that 13,423 motorists were issued fine tickets for using mobile phone during driving, 14,697 motorcyclists for not using helmets, 21,587 for not using seat belts, 2,228 for driving vehicles without licenses, 3,243 vehicles fined for having tinted glasses, 14,152 for violation of signals, 7,888 for parking vehicles in no parking areas, 10,203 for careless driving, 3,348 vehicles fined for being driven without registration plates, 9,251 for neglecting other rights on roads, 2,186 for driving vehicles without permission, 6,494 for route violation, 1,089 for using pressure horns, 7,888 for wrong parking and 5,495 for lane violation.
Dr Masood said that fine tickets are issued not as a punitive measure but to make the citizens more law abiding. The ITP personnel will continue their efforts for ensuring safe road environment in the capital and urged the people to cooperate with them to make the city accident-free, he added.
"ITP has become model of excellence through its service-oriented policies and further endeavouring to come up to the expectations of the public by ensuring traffic discipline in the city," the SSP Traffic said. He said ITP has good reputation because of its corruption-free and people-friendly force. He said that ITP provided help to hundreds of motorists deserted on roads due to some mechanical or other problems during last two months. The SSP said there is no alternate to life and ITP is making extraordinary efforts to avoid mishaps on roads, which bring miseries to the family members of the deceased.
"Elimination of VIP culture and equal application of law are the operational codes of the ITP, which has become the model of excellence for all law enforcement agencies," he added. During the year 2011, ITP issued 185,330 traffic violation tickets through which Rs 47.5 millions revenue was generated. Help, Service and Equal application of law are the operational codes of the Islamabad traffic Police and ITP believes in Police - community participation and community based policing.
Education teams of ITP visit public and private organisations, trade and transport unions, universities, colleges and schools to inculcate road safety tips through road safety training to educate thousands of drivers and other road users. Furthermore, special training workshops have been designed for the PSV drivers.
