The provincial government will achieve the target of purchase of 4 million MT wheat from the growers, said Punjab Minister for Food Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor while talking to the wheat growers and newsmen during the inspection of food department's wheat purchase centre.
He said that effective plan had been devised for providing the maximum benefits to the real and genuine farmers during the wheat procurement campaign. The minister said regular monitoring was also being carried out for ensuring the transparent process of wheat procurement and nobody would be allowed to exploit the wheat growers.
He said that the Punjab government was fully aware of the problems of the small farmers and revolutionary agricultural policies were being followed for their welfare while listening the problems of the wheat growers, he said that the gunny bags were being distributed under prescribed policy to facilitate the wheat growers.
He assured that the issue of increase of quota of bardana would be tabled in the meeting of provincial cabinet suitable decision would be made for the larger interest of the farmers. The minister inspected the process of wheat procurement and its storage.
He directed the staff for performing duties diligently and warned that any corruption would not be tolerated at any cost. He appreciated the performance of Deputy Director Food, DFC and their team for better arrangements to facilitate and guidance of the farmers. Deputy Director Food Department, Sardar Saifullah Khan Joya informed the minister that 44377 metric tons of wheat had been purchased in 4 districts of the division against the 440000 metric tons, which is 10.54 % of the target. He said that sufficient quality of bardana was available and smooth distribution was in progress. DFC Muhammad Taufiq, AFC Naseem Wasti and other officers of food department were also present.
