Pakistan Meteorological Department on Tuesday forecast that the current heat wave gripping plain areas is likely to continue in most parts of the country till Thursday and will subside from Friday. It also predicted rains/dust-thundershowers in the 'barani' (rain-fed) areas of the country.
According to the met office, day temperatures in the plain areas of the country are six to eight degrees above normal values. The increasing trend in temperature is likely to continue up till Thursday. Increased temperatures in the upper parts have increased snow melting process, thus increasing inflow of major water reservoirs/ rivers. The met office also said that a weak westerly weather system is likely to enter Balochistan on Thursday (evening/night). Under the influence of this system, isolated rains/dust-thundershowers are expected in Northeast Balochistan on Thursday/Friday and in upper Punjab, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir between April 28 and 30.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Bahawalpur and Larkana were the hottest places in the country where 46 Celsius degrees was recorded. Maximum temperature of 45 Celsius degrees was recorded in Nawabshah, D.G. Khan and Rahimyar Khan, 44 Celsius degrees at Bhakkar, Multan, Bahawalpur, Khanpur, Rohri, Sukkur and Sibi, 43 Celsius degrees at Sahiwal, Jacobabad, D.I. Khan, Jhang and Okara while 42 Celsius degrees was recorded at Lahore, Faisalabad, Mianwali and Hyderabad.
