Alleviation of unemployment, poverty: Sindh government allocates Rs 2.5 billion

Provincial Co-ordinator, Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Youth Development Programme (BBSYDP), Haji Karim Baksh Siddiqui has said that the government of Sindh has allocated Rs 2.5 billion with the target of 50,000 trainees to be trained in Phase -III for the alleviation of unemployment and poverty through Human Resource Development (HRD).
Addressing a seminar on "highly demanded real time trades in Sindh "jointly organised by Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and BBSYDP, he said that the World Bank has granted 2.75 million dollars on skill development of youth under Japan Social Development Fund (JSDF).
He said that phase I and II of the programme have been successfully completed during which around 83,000 trainees were taken into the training. He said that the World Bank is satisfied with the progress of the programme and signed a contract for HRD through short term skill development training of 5,050 trainees in market driven trade under JSDF
He said that JSDF aims to mitigate the negative impact of the flood, fuel, and financial crises on employment and income of the vulnerable youth by equipping them with skills that are in demand and that will facilitate their entry into the job market.
President KCCI, Saeed Shaifq emphasised the need that youth be encouraged to go for self employment. He said in present economic grim condition nether government nor private sector can provide or create more and more employment opportunities. He said the financial institutions and government should extend their helping hand to unemployed educated youth and facilitate them to go for self-employment.
