It is feared that proposals for provincial budget may be delayed as, out of 27 standing committees of Sindh assembly, only three committees have held meetings so far to discuss and float their suggestions for the Sindh budget for 2011-12, sources told PPI here on Saturday.
Sindh Assembly Speaker Nisar Ahmed Khuhro had directed the chairmen of all standing committees to hold meetings well in time to discuss budget proposals, given by concerned departments for 2011-12 budget. According to the schedule issued by Secretary, Sindh Assembly, Hadi Bux Buriro, the meetings of two standing committees on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries and Transport were fixed for April 7, while the standing committees for Health and Home had to meet on April 8.
The standing committees on Finance and Inter-provincial co-ordination and Co-operation had to meet on April 9, while Culture, Tourism and Archives was to meet on April 11, and Food, Supply and Prices and Environment and Alternative Energy on April 12.
The meetings of standing committees on Education and Literacy, and Excise and taxation were on 13th April, Prisons and Forests and Wildlife on 14th April, Industries, Commerce, Mines and Minerals Development on 15th April, Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights, Katchi Abadies & Spatial Development, and Rural development on 16th April, Minority Affairs and Planning and Development on 18th April, Irrigation and Power and Population Welfare, Social Welfare and Women Development on 19th April.
The meetings of standing committees on SGA&CD and Works and services were scheduled on 20th April, Information Technology and Labour on 21st April, and Board of Revenue on 22nd April. The meeting of standing committee for Local government was scheduled on 23rd April, but it could not be held, sources said.
Only three standing committees--Minorities Affairs, Irrigation and Power and Services, General Administration and Co-ordination Departments (SGA&CD)--managed to meet on schedule and discussed the proposals made by concerned departments for their inclusion in the 2011-12 budget. Sadly, the rest of standing committees failed to meet and discuss the proposal of concerned departments regarding the budget 2011-12 which shows the degree of seriousness of the elected members to solve the problems of masses.
