A division bench of the Lahore High Court here Wednesday adjourned to May 4 the hearing of bail petition of Hamesh Khan and his co-accused Shekih Afzal in a Punjab Bank loan scam of Rs 9 billion as Afzal engaged Ahmed Awais as his new counsel who needed time to study the case. Hamesh, former president Punjab Bank, was accused of sanctioning Rs 9 billion to Harris Steel Mills against rules and regulations.
Earlier, the counsel for NAB said Hamesh was main accused in the Punjab bank scam and he had issued loans of billions of rupees on bogus papers. Hamesh' counsel had criticised the NAB reply submitting that the case had been investigated by many officers and there were more than one version in the case regarding his client.
Hamesh filed the bail petition second time as earlier his counsel, Mehmood A Sheikh had withdrawn the petition on the plea that it would be filed later on with some amendments. The accused had withdrawn the petition, as the Supreme Court (SC) had dismissed his request for transfer of his case to another bench of the LHC.
