'Fight against extremists in larger interest of international community'

Governor Punjab, Sardar Latif Khan Khosa has said Pakistan and Nato forces are fighting against extremists in the larger interest of international community. He was speaking at the certificate distribution ceremony held in honour of the participants of South Asia Media School/DW workshop at the South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA), here on Wednesday.
Secretary General SAFMA, Imtiaz Alam, besides other office-bearers of the association was also present. He lamented that the international community was turning a blind eye towards the atrocities committed by the forces in Kashmir and Palestine. He further added that some 8 million Kashmiris are being kept hostage by 800,000 Indian soldiers. They have killed 10,000 Kashmiris ruthlessly but the international community never paid attention, he said.
About media controversies, he said Pakistan has an independent and powerful judiciary but media becomes more powerful than judiciary at times. Judiciary seldom takes notice of media's irresponsibility, he added.
However, he stressed the need that the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) should make a code of conduct in order to ensure media freedom in Pakistan. He appreciated the role of media in propagating issues and pointed out that it is the media, which is putting IMF and World Bank into limelight for the common man to understand issues.
