Power shortfall has crossed 4000MW during last 24 hours with a considerable cut in hydel generation in the country. This sudden rise in power shortfall has left the power distribution companies with no option but to increase load-shedding duration. Particularly, the rural and suburb areas around major cities were the worst hit where power outages crossed 20 hours a day.
Interestingly, the MD Pepco Muhammad Khalid had mentioned a day earlier that there was no forced closure of electricity in the country. However, present reduction in power generation owing to dead-end levels of leading dams has proved all such claims as false and out of place. Many areas in the country witnessed forced closures for two to four hours besides the scheduled load shedding.
According to the Pepco source, power generation during last 24 hours stood at 10005MW against a demand of 14360MW, leaving the system with a shortfall of 4355MW. Meanwhile, power generation through hydel, thermal, IPPS and RPPs was recorded at 2250MW, 1561MW, 6084 MW and 110MW respectively. Power supply to the KESC remained 660MW.
