US wheat futures rose 2 percent on Tuesday, building on the prior day's rally for the biggest two-day advance in a month, as adverse weather threatened crops in the top producers the United States, Europe and Canada. Corn edged higher, with the strongest gains in post-harvest contracts amid concern that wet weather in the US Midwest would delay planting this spring.
Soybeans followed corn and wheat higher, although gains were blunted by news that top importer China cancelled some of its purchases and deferred others. Chicago Board of Trade wheat for May rose 1.9 percent to $7.90 a bushel by 12:23 pm CDT (1723 GMT). Hard red winter wheat on the Kansas City Board of Trade jumped 3.5 percent to $9.27 a bushel while Minneapolis Grain Exchange spring wheat climbed 3.6 percent to $9.47 per bushel. CBOT May corn firmed by 0.1 percent to $7.52-1/2 a bushel, while December corn jumped 1.3 percent to $6.77 after earlier setting a contract high of $6.80. CBOT May soybeans rose 0.2 percent to $13.46-1/2 a bushel.
