Nineteen participants of 9th Senior Management Course from National Management College, Lahore, representing various occupational groups, visited Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) head office. Anjum Basheer Chairman TCP welcomed the participants and briefed them about the Corporation's working, performance and achievements.
A detailed presentation was made about the role TCP played in the national economy particularly in improving supply line of essential commodities; providing essential commodities to common man at affordable price and to forestall shortages thereof. The visiting officers were informed that TCP acts only on specific directions of the ECC of Cabinet/Federal Government to implement the policy decision in the longer public interest.
TCP has imported around 1,100,000 MT sugar and TCP's market interference greatly helped stabilise the prices in the local market. Presently, TCP has a sufficient stock of sugar in hand to prevent any shortage of the commodity in the country in year 2011. Besides, to meet the short fall in domestic requirement of farmers, TCP imported 800,000 MT Urea during the year 2010 for Rabi & Kharif crops and around 2,39,000 MT during the current year for Rabi-2011.
The entire quantity of imported Urea was lifted by National Fertiliser Marketing Limited (NFML) direct from the port for onward sale, marketing and distribution through their network. The participants were also informed that all procurements and sales made by TCP fully comply with PPRA Rules and the Corporation has been endeavouring to maintain complete transparency in all its operations. The goods are shipped only after inspection by a world class pre-shipment inspection agency and delivered only after they have been cleared by PSQCA.-PR
