Cleanliness in Capital: CDA decides to take co-ordinated measures

Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to take co-ordinated measures to ensure cleanliness in the Federal Capital by launching a rigorous anti-littering drive to implement existing laws in a befitting manner. It is need of the hour that all concerned formations of the CDA should launch a co-ordinated anti-littering campaign and evolve a comprehensive strategy for implementation of Municipal and Anti-littering by-laws in effective manner, said Chairman CDA, Imtiaz Inayat Elahi.
Wild shrubs, heaps of construction material, encroachments and leaking water poring into the streets are the serious threats to the beauty of the city and all concerned departments must take efforts to make the city clean, Elahi said while addressing the participants of the CDA Board meeting held here on Monday. He presided over the meeting, which was attended by members of the CDA Board and other high officers of the civic body.
CDA has formulated comprehensive strategy to keep the city in tidy condition and preserve its natural environment and unique green character. Chairman CDA has nominated Director General (Civic Management) as Co-ordinator to launch anti-littering drive in collaboration with the other concerned formations of the Authority.
He also directed that arrangements for the launching of special anti-littering drive from April 29 be finalised. Anti-littering drive would help raise awareness on cleanliness as well as on environmental issues being taken part by the representatives of the sector citizens committees, traders, civil society, students and people from all walks of life. He said that the CDA is making all-out efforts to keep the city clean for which co-operation of all segments of society is vital to make the drive a success.
He said that it is our collective responsibility to keep our houses, streets and sectors clean, which would enable us to transfer this asset of clean Islamabad to the next generation. He said that the ill-planned and the haphazardly throwing of litter and waste are posing serious health problems by promoting unhygienic conditions. This also causes pollution and sanitation issues, which add to the many of other environmental problems. He called upon the media to take part in the anti-littering drive.
