Balochistan government has agreed in principal to release Rs 2 billion to the Food Department of the province for the procurement of wheat. This was stated by the Balochistan Minister for Excise and Taxation, Mir Mohammad Amin Umrani during a briefing on wheat procurement, held here on Monday.
"On the special directives of Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Mohammad Aslam Raisani Rs 2 billion would be released to the Food Department, government of Balochistan to avoid any possible shortage, he said. Secretary Food Ali Bakhsh Baloch, while briefing the minister said that Food Department has Rs 10 million besides the announced amount by the Chief Minister Balochistan for the wheat procurement.
Pasco would also establish food centres in Balochistan as Food Department have 180,000 wheat sacks capacity against the target of 10,0000 for Balochistan. Expressing satisfaction over the performance of the food department, he urged the authorities to evolve a strategy in advance to divert the workload during the purchase time of wheat. He said wheat should be procured quickly so that the zamindars should not suffer any loss in case of rain or calamity.
