Lahore High Court Chief justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry on Friday ordered National Accountability Bureau Punjab to hold a probe into allegations of kickbacks in selling embassy land in Japan and Indonesia in 2002. The chief justice also directed to file a reference, if made out, to accountability court within two months.
The court passed this order while disposing of a writ petition filed by Dr Qaisar through his counsel Sajjid Ashraf challenged the sale of high cost Embassy land in the said countries allegedly on the 'directions' of then chief executive of Pervez Musharraf who allegedly shared kickbacks with the then ambassadors in sale deal.
The petitioner said that then ambassador to Jakarata, Indonesia Major General Mustafa Anwar Hussain (Retd) misused his authority as envoy to sell the building of the embassy of Pakistan and residence of ambassador on February 18 2002, for illegal financial gains.
Referring to a report of ministry of foreign affairs published in a local newspaper, the petitioner said the sold property was gifted by Indonesian president Soekarno to Pakistan but it was sold under a directive issued by then chief executive Pervez Musharraf.
The petitioner said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had opposed the sale but he alleged that in connivance with then chief executive Musharrf sealed the deal with a company belonging to ambassador's Indonesian wife. According to the petition, it was purchased by Indonesian company ERA Victoria for 2.28 million dollars and later inter-ministerial committee (of Pakistan) approved the sale deal on September 18, 2002.
Similarly, the property of embassy of Pakistan in Japan including embassy building and residence of ambassador was sold through then secretary of embassy of Pakistan in Tokyo Japan Asghar Ali Golo who was now director of Ministry of foreign affairs, the petitioner claimed.
