Countrywide protest was held on Thursday against the release of Raymond Davis, on the appeal of the Jamaat-e-Islami chief, Syed Munawar Hasan. Protest rallies and demonstrations were held in the federal and the provincial capitals besides major cities and small towns as the masses looked shocked over this sudden sell out the national honour and prestige by the rulers and the secret agencies.
Meanwhile, the JI and the Tehrik-e-Insaaf (TI) have decided to hold joint protest against Raymond Davis's release from Friday (today). The decision was made in a telephonic contact between the JI chief, Syed Munawar Hasan and TI chief, Imran Khan on Thursday. Accordingly, the joint demonstration in the Punjab capital on Friday will be led by Syed Munawar Hasan while the rally at Rawalpindi on the same day will be led by Imran Khan.
Syed Munawar Hasan, while talking to different delegations at Mansoora here on Thursday, said that the nation had lost confidence in the state institutions, including the armed forces. He said, the federal and the Punjab governments, the Foreign and the Interior Ministries were equally involved in this crime against the nation and the country. By releasing Raymond Davis, the rulers had placed Pakistan's solidarity and sovereignty as well as the nation's life and property at the mercy of the US terrorists, which had created a deep sense of insecurity among the masses.
He said the rulers' loyalty for the country and the nation had always been doubtful, but Raymond's release should also be an eye opener for those who believed Nawaz Sharif was something different from Zardari. In such a situation, he said, the nation won't have any choice except to rally under the JI banner to get rid of the US slaves.
Veteran politician and JI deputy chief, Professor Ghafoor Ahmed led the rally in Karachi, while the Peshawar rally was led by Sirajul Haq. In the Punjab capital, the protest rally was addressed by Amirul Azeem and others. The protestors raised slogans against Raymond Davis release. Protest rallies were also taken out at Sargodha, Bahawalpur, Multan, Khushab, Rawalpindi and Attock.
